In January of 2022, the Port closed on the acquisition of a former Georgia Pacific Mill site in Coos Bay that had closed its doors in 2019.  Closure of this facility resulted in the loss of approximately 120 jobs in the region and a once vibrant industrial property sitting fallow.  The property is located at River Mile 15 in the Coos Bay Harbor and consists of approximately 167 acres.  The site is rail served and is equipped with a 1,200’ long dock.  Features of the facility include:

• Property is approximately 167 acres
• Adjacent to the Federal Navigation Channel
• Currently dredged to -37’ MLLW
• Rail Served by the Coos Bay Rail Line which provides connectivity to the National Railway Network through the Union Pacific yard in Eugene, Oregon
• Supported by the Coos Bay Yard with 12 railcar spots and plans for expansion
• 800’ and 1200’ dock frontage
• Private water supply and holding tank for fire suppression
• Northwest Natural Gas, 6” line located at west lot line.  Pacific Power service with approximately 7MW
• Coos Bay North Bend Water Board freshwater capacity is approximately 4 million gallons per day
• Connected to the City of Coos Bay wastewater treatment facility via Bunkerhill Sanitary District

The vision for the facility is to site multiple users that will benefit from both rail and maritime transportation.  The Port is also looking to cultivate inquiries that will serve to diversify the economy in southwestern Oregon, while taking into consideration which types of cargo will work well for the community.  In promoting the Port’s mission to promote sustainable economic development for the region and State, ensuring that this is done in a way that honors the culture and environment of the region is a primary focus.

Sawmill equipment is no longer present on site.  The existing buildings on site total over 83,420 square feet and can either be demolished for new build or repurposed for tenant needs.  Structures include:
