Announcement from Port of Coos Bay Commissioners
June 6, 2024
After almost ten years of dedicated service to the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, our Chief Executive Officer John Burns is ending his tenure to take on the next challenge in his career. The Board of Commissioners wishes to express its sincere thanks to John for his years of service to the Port, the Port’s staff, the Port’s customers, and the entire greater Coos Bay community.
During John’s time with the Port, he provided leadership through some key moments in the Port’s history, including the Channel Modification Project and the continued modernization and expansion of the Coos Bay Rail Line. While at the Port, John has served as a representative to many associations and commissions. He served as President of the Oregon Public Ports Association, Commissioner on the South Slough Reserve management commission, as an Officer on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Rail Users’ League, and member of the CCD board.
A transition plan is being initiated, so the last day for John at the Port is still to be determined. The Board of Commissioners continues to express its gratitude to John and wish him fair winds and following seas as he leaves on his next adventure.
Sincerely,
Board of Commissioners
Oregon International Port of Coos Bay
