Port staff replaced the launch ramp docks, which are used for temporary dockage at the Charleston Marina launch ramp.  The launch ramp is used exclusively by recreational fishermen and boaters. 

The old docks have dry rot damage that would have compromised their viability soon if they are not replaced.  The last significant project to improve the docks took place in 2007, repairing concrete on the ramp itself.  Prior to that, a significant dock repair project was completed in the 1980's to refurbish the dock structures.  After 30 years, the docks have reached their end of their useful life and require extensive repair. Originally, planned for a repair, the Port decided to replace the docks due to the conditions.

This project was partially funded by the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) Boating Facility Grant Program and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), investing fees and taxes paid by motorized boaters for boating facility improvements. The Port would like to thank the OSMB and ODFW for their funding support.

In August, 2019, the Charleston Maintenance crew successfully repaired the southernmost launch ramp floating dock and reinstalled all the sections, once again making it available for recreational boaters.  The rebuilt dock pods were refitted with extruded aluminum versus the pressure treated wood that was previously used; making the dock pods stronger and more resistant to inclement weather. Using aluminum extends the life expectancy of the dock to 40 to 50 years. A total of 20 dock pods were replaced.

Total project cost was about $300,000.
